Seaside.

Sunday night we went overnight to Seaside. Billie had rented a timeshare for the weekend but, due to her extensive travel, really needed to weekend at home. Dave and Rachel decided to still come down and stayed Friday and Saturday night. Sunday we headed up after church (really only about 25 minutes from Manzanita, which is about 20 minutes from us) and spent twenty-four hours "getting away." The room was….well, much more than just one room. It was a three bedroom "condo."

This was the view from the balcony. Not surprising, the beach was of little interest to us, as it’s nothing new. What was of interest were the pools! We went swimming three times. Luckily they keep the water very, very warm, because it’s outdoors and, at least while we were there, there was a nasty wind coming off the ocean.

I am writing this from the store across the street from us, which I am "watching" for the day. So Ali and I are chilling at Off Our Rocker. It’s too bad ya’ll are far away or you could come down and visit. Road trip anyone?

Hilarious!

I love this video. It was when we were at my parents’ house a few weeks ago and I gave Ali a whole apple to…eat? Entertain her? Whatever. Also, I will hopefully soon be able to re-upload the Shayla video (a must see!) with sound.

And, we just got back from our night in Seaside a few hours ago. Had a great time. Working on some pics from there too. As well as a shipwreck uncovered by our house and the latest on the duplex next door. So much to blog about, so little time!

Eighty degrees. In April. At the beach!

Amazing.  What a beauuuuuutiful day. And we definitely made the most of it. This morning we went on a long walk/hike up to the height of Rockaway. Then we got the mail. On the way we found a planner which we tried to leave at the police station but it wasn’t open. Ah, small towns. We were able to turn it in at the post office because there was a receipt for a PO Box purchase in it. All in all we were out from 9am – 10:45. I was wearing a tank top (well, actually two) and was fine. Warm, even! There was a southern breeze that you could almost describe as warm. It was great.

Then we went to the Obama office we are helping open in Tillamook to clean up for a few hours. It was sunny and warm and there were SO many people. the season has definitely begun. Dot fell asleep on the way home. Nap #2 for her, as she slept most of the way through our walk. So Tony and I sat outside while she slept in the car and ate a snacky late lunch. We put swimsuits on and waited for her wake up so we could go to the beach.

At the beach it was so pleasant. Not even so windy that it feels cold like is so typical. We went in the water a bit. Ali is such a little water baby. Be it bath, pool, ocean, she loves it all. It’s insane. the ocean, of course wasn’t even warm but she wanted so bad to get down and crawl in it. She’d lean over and try to get down and back in it when she was taken away, even though she was shivering.

I saw on the news tonight it reached eighty in Tillamook. That combined with all the time we spent outside and it should be no surprise that Tony and I are a little red. At least we’re good parents and sunscreened Ali all up. Btw, she was exhausted and went to bed before 6:30!

Tomorrow we’re spending the night at WorldMark in Seaside, regretfully  without Billie. Enjoy your weekend!

Ahhhhh. Today the clouds burned off and we had a sunny late afternoon and evening. It was great. Energizing. And I got a chance to take some pictures on Ali. She is going to be such a sunshine girl like her mother. More here.

So much.

There is so much to say. Things I haven’t yet gotten around to mentioning. Things that have repeatedly slipped my mind. Things that fell by the wayside when I got interrupted mid-post.

  • Reading. Ali is so in a books stage. Her favorites right now are "Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See?" "Aloha is…" "Elmo’s Guessing Game About Colors," this one Baby Einstein one about a tadpole finding his mommy, and one about the seashore that she’s practically eaten. All of these she will make you read multiple times through and cry whenever they are over. The baby bear one has a bright yellow cover that she recognizes and pulls off the shelf. Also high on the list are her two "potty books." One called "Look Baby" and another, "My Puppy."

n690961550 761136 378 So much.

  • Pointing. Just a few days ago she began pointing. Now she points at EVERYTHING and it is so cute. It’s also much easier to be able to tell what she wants or to go around naming things off to her and know that we’re on the same page. Also makes the before mentioned activity (reading books) more interactive. Almost immediately she began sticking her finger up her nose. Gag me. I cannot stand nose stuff. Nose noises, nose substances…they all make me gag. Picking and eating?!?!? Barf, barf, barf. I cannot handle it but she thinks it’s pretty funny.
  • The bird. Or birds? A day or few before the lovely construction began (more about that to come, soon and often!) I began hearing a bird pecking in Ali’s room. Well, outside, but I heard it in her room. And it’s continued. And I don’t know how to get it to stop. Pretty sure a nest has been built about seven or so feet from where she sleeps. And we had a nest of baby birds in our house last year. Well, outside. They were LOUD. Maybe the construction will drown it out? Ahahahaha.
  • I turned around in the kitchen today and saw Ali standing at the refrigerator. She’s just getting so big!

n690961550 761137 936 So much.

  • I’m so ready for some SUNSHINE!
  • This is such an adorable picture.

Childproofing. Again.

n690961550 756737 6177 Childproofing. Again.

Yesterday was a big day around here. First Ali randomly began opening the cupboards. First the one where her bibs are kept, then the one where her snacks are. Hungry much? Then she opened the bottom drawer where her cups and empty baby food containers are. Today we bought some drawer and cupboard locks are Fred Meyer. Ugh, I’ve always hated it when people have those. So obnoxious. And, apparently, so necessary.

Then, Ali started climbing the stairs. And we don’t have a few or even a short flight. There are, I dunno, over a dozen(?) steep stairs that go from upstairs to downstairs. And now she can climb them. Or attempt. Or whatever. Greeeeeaaatttt. Baby gates are now on the list of necessities. Also on that list? A new frikkin’ baby monitor! Or at least an adapter. We left the baby’s room part at Billie’s last week. Though she so graciously overnighted it on Friday, our post office isn’t open on Saturday so we couldn’t pick the package up until Monday. I spent most nights sleeping in Ali’s room. Last night we were so stoked to have our freedom again (really? a baby monitor equals freedom?!?! That’s what we’ve become?) and then Tony pointed out that the wire had been cut in two. Apparently, when opening the envelope, I cut  through the wire as well.  Sigh…

Another night spent upstairs. This time awoken by a tractor that marks the beginning of construction on the new duplex going in next door. Hopefully more of that from Tony later. Maybe we can peer pressure him into blogging! Anyway, now we’re in need of something to remedy this. I think tony found an adapter at Radio Shack for only $13. Pretty good deal, especially considering we got the whole monitor for $8 from Goodwill. But, Radio Shack is twenty minutes away and we were already there once today. So, we’re baby monitorless yet again.
