Getting a smile.

Even though Ali smiles so often now, it seems harder and herder to catch it on camera. Maybe because I’m so used to her smiles they are less of a camera-grabbing event? Maybe because she now knows the camera and it induces a smile ending curiosity in her. This week I have tried on a few occasions to get a really good smiling picture. These are the best outcomes. Check the five month album to see only some of the misses.

The Lewis Family Christmas.

About a week overdue. Sorry about that! And before I get to it, we got home fine on Friday afternoon. Pulled in just after two and found the power had come back on at 1:21pm. That means it was off for just under five days!!!! Needless to say, all our food was spoiled. Other than that we faired really well. An upstairs window lost a screen and there was a mysterious puddle in the kitchen that we think came from a window facing the east. The drive was amazing, sooo many trees down once we got over the mountains and Tillamook is covered in mud. All the towns are really just coming back to life. More on this topic to come, I’m sure.

Last Saturday we gathered with my dad’s side of the family to celebrate Christmas. My dad has three older brothers, so there are twelve cousins (including myself), and now twelve great-grandkids. For some reason the lighting/quality of these pictures is kind of odd…

Teeth and the state of the Oregon Coast.

Can you see her two new additions there? We are still at my parents. Beginning to grow rather restless but, while the roads are open it doesn’t seem power is back yet. From what we can tell there’s a small chance it will be restored tonight but more likely tomorrow around 6pm. Either we’ll go back tomorrow afternoon of Friday morning. The whole coast is such a mess though…and that’s only what we’ve seen through pictures and on the news. Information is still spotty, as phone service was just recently restored. In Seaside people were lined up for blocks trying to get gas. THat is, those lucky enough to have cash. Anyone relying on plastic has been out of luck this week. What a reminder as to the downside of technology. When it works it’s great (or, nowadays, normal and taken for granted) but when it doesn’t it’s startling and too often devastating. We are itching to get home though. Tiring of the two days worth of clothes we brought. Ali misses her mobile, swing, and famialiar surroundings. Everyone is curious of the house’s condition…and the town’s. We are sad to have missed such an event and boding experience for the community but thankful that we are not going on our fourth day without power. The weather is supposed to be getting cold too, so let’s hope electricity is restored soon for everyone currently going without.

December Storm.

I’m sure most of you…at least those in the northwest…have heard how bad things are at the coast. Well…we are not there! We decided to stay at my parents’ and wait this thing out. Good decision on our part. At the moment there is no way to get to the coast, Highway 101 is either flooded out or blocked in multiple places, Highway 6 is closed from Banks to Tillamook. The town of Tillamook itself is an island (there’s no way in or out). Rockaway recently reported 104 mph winds. Other than that there is no news. The cell towers fell last night, there’s no phone and no power in most places. Let’s just say we are glad to be dry, warm, and able to watch the news and post on the internet. Not sure when we’ll be able to make it home, hopefully in the next day or two.

Pics from the Lewis Family Christmas are up in an album. A post to come soon…

Also, today Ali is FIVE MONTHS!
